Grab Malaysia Collaborates with BESarawak

Southeast Asia’s leading superapp, Grab, has taken its community engagement initiatives to a new level by collaborating with Business Events Sarawak (BESarawak) during its Outer Cities Offsite 2024 corporate retreat. This inaugural retreat, held in Sarawak, not only strengthens teamwork among Grab Malaysia employees but also leaves a lasting impact on the local community through the donation of 500 children’s books.

The Outer Cities Offsite 2024 brought together 70 Grab employees from across Malaysia to foster collaboration and camaraderie among team members who often interact virtually. The retreat’s agenda combined team-building activities with immersive cultural experiences, creating a dynamic and engaging environment for participants.

Highlights of the retreat included a pickleball workshop and friendly match, as well as the Kuching City Exploration, where participants embarked on an adventure through the city’s renowned heritage trails and attractions.

Grab Malaysia’s commitment to community empowerment was further showcased through its participation in Books Build Legacy, a corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme spearheaded by BESarawak. The programme aims to create meaningful connections between corporate organisations and the local community, particularly marginalised groups, through impactful initiatives such as book donations.

Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, highlighted the significance of partnerships like this in creating lasting change. “Books Build Legacy has become a powerful partnership programme to bridge the gap between corporate organisations and the local community—especially marginalised communities,” said Amelia.

“It’s important to recognise that the smallest actions lead to larger outcomes. My team and I are very proud to support the Grab Malaysia Outer Cities Offsite 2024 and their mission of empowering people. We hope that more business event planners are inspired to be part of the change.”

By donating 500 children’s books, Grab Malaysia contributes to BESarawak’s broader vision of ensuring that corporate events such as meetings, incentives, conventions, and exhibitions leave a positive social impact on the community. This initiative underscores the importance of integrating CSR efforts into business events to foster community development and build a legacy for future generations.

Sarawak, with its rich cultural heritage and natural beauty, provided the perfect backdrop for Grab Malaysia’s first-ever incentive retreat in the region. The retreat not only allowed employees to strengthen bonds but also immersed them in the local culture, creating memorable experiences that resonate with the company’s ethos of community engagement.

The partnership between Grab and BESarawak demonstrates how corporate retreats can extend beyond internal goals to contribute meaningfully to society. The Outer Cities Offsite 2024 exemplifies the growing trend of businesses aligning their events with sustainability and social responsibility.

Grab Malaysia’s initiatives set a powerful example for other organisations to follow. Through strategic collaborations like the one with BESarawak, companies can amplify their impact on local communities while achieving corporate objectives.

As Amelia Roziman aptly stated, “The smallest actions lead to larger outcomes”. The success of *Outer Cities Offsite 2024 serves as a reminder that corporate events can be both impactful and inspiring, bridging gaps between businesses and communities while leaving a meaningful legacy.
