The ‘Lighting Up 2024 Through The Lens’ photography contest, held from December 28, 2023, to January 10, 2024, has officially announced its winners. In a resounding celebration of photographic excellence, the winners announced are Najmuddin Muif, John Sheng, Yih Chang, and Haris Kimie who have garnered well-deserved recognition for their exceptional artwork. These outstanding artworks are slated to take center stage at the esteemed Jimei X Arles International Photo Festival in Xiamen, Fujian, China. A testament to the talent within Malaysia, the contest aimed to encapsulate the essence of the year through the lens of photography, resulting in an impressive showcase of skill and creativity from entrants across the nation.
The Arles International Photography Festival, often called the “Oscars” of photography is the world’s largest and most influential. In China, the Jimei·Arles Photography Season, co-directed by the French Arles Festival Director and Chinese artist Rong Rong, is known for its high quality and international reach. Since 2015, it has showcased over 200 shows from Asia and the joint exhibition of selected works from China and Arles has attracted over 400,000 visitors to date.
This year marks a milestone for Malaysia as the winning artworks will be prominently displayed at the Jimei X Arles International Photo Festival in Xiamen, Fujian, China. This prestigious platform provides a global stage for these talented Malaysian photographers, allowing them to share their vision with international audiences.
