The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has proudly achieved a significant milestone by winning the esteemed Startup Ecosystem Stars (SES) 2024 award in the “Exceptional Industry Support” category. The award, presented by Mind the Bridge (MTB) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris, highlights MDEC’s pivotal role in driving innovation and advancing Malaysia’s position in the global digital economy.
The SES 2024 Awards are internationally recognized for celebrating organizations that contribute to building thriving startup ecosystems. MDEC’s success reflects Malaysia’s growing influence in the digital sector, showcasing the country as a key player in fostering entrepreneurship, innovation, and digital transformation.
Representing MDEC, the Trade Commissioner of MATRADE Paris accepted the award, emphasizing the strong partnership between MDEC and MATRADE. This collaboration underscores Malaysia’s commitment to enhancing market access for local tech companies and positioning Malaysia as a leader in the global digital economy.
Anuar Fariz Fadzil, CEO of MDEC, expressed pride in the recognition, stating, “This accolade is a testament to MDEC’s ongoing efforts to nurture entrepreneurship and support the growth of innovative tech companies. The award also highlights the success of MDEC’s Digital Exports’ GAIN (Gateway, Amplify, Invest, Nurture) programme. Launched in 2017, GAIN has helped Malaysian tech companies expand into over 26 international markets, fostering partnerships with more than 1,000 organizations and attracting investment opportunities. Through this programme, Malaysian tech companies have collectively generated USD 31.9 billion in revenue and USD 11.2 billion in exports, with over 500 companies benefiting from these initiatives.
MDEC’s ongoing efforts have significantly transformed Malaysia’s digital landscape. Through its strategic Funding Facilitation programmes, MDEC has supported 262 local tech companies in raising a total of USD 402 million between 2020 and 2023. This recognition affirms MDEC’s role as a leading force in shaping Malaysia’s digital future, strengthening its position as a digital hub in ASEAN and ensuring that Malaysian tech companies continue to thrive on the global stage.
