Sarawak Debuts AI.LEGACY: The World’s First Intelligent System for Tracking Business Event Impacts

Sarawak has made history as the first region in the world to launch AI.LEGACY, an innovative intelligent impact management system designed to monitor, measure, and report the legacies of business events hosted in the state. The new system, which uses advanced artificial intelligence, aims to revolutionize how business events’ long-term impacts are tracked and analyzed, positioning Sarawak as the global leader in event legacy management.

AI.LEGACY is built around four core objectives:

  1. Tracking Real-Time Impacts – Monitoring the immediate and long-term effects of business events hosted in Sarawak.
  2. Data-Driven Decision-Making – Empowering event planners to make more informed, evidence-based decisions using actionable insights.
  3. AI-Enhanced Data Collection and Analysis – Utilizing artificial intelligence to gather, analyze, and manage event data, streamlining the entire legacy measurement process.
  4. Positioning Sarawak as the Legacy Capital – Strengthening Sarawak’s status as the legacy hub for business events in Malaysia and Borneo.

“This is a monumental achievement for Sarawak,” said The Hon. Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak. “After years of research, strategic development, and trial-and-error learning, we are incredibly proud to introduce AI.LEGACY. This system is 100% locally developed through a collaboration between BESarawak and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS). It marks a new era of impactful event planning, allowing event planners to better assess their contributions to Sarawak’s Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

With the introduction of AI.LEGACY, Sarawak is setting a new standard for business event legacy management, offering a comprehensive platform for tracking and maximizing the impact of events. Event planners can now harness the power of AI to ensure that their efforts are aligned with broader social, environmental, and economic goals, creating a lasting, positive impact for both Sarawak and the global community.

BESarawak Announces Milestone Achievement with AI.LEGACY, Revolutionizing Business Event Legacy Measurement

BESarawak is proud to announce that it is ahead of schedule in achieving the Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025, with the successful development of AI.LEGACY, a cutting-edge intelligent impact management system designed to track, measure, and report the legacies of business events. This milestone ensures that Sarawak’s business events sector will continue to thrive while providing measurable benefits to society.

Dato Sri Abang Haji Abdul Karim bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg, Chairman of BESarawak, expressed satisfaction with the progress: “BESarawak is very pleased to be ahead of schedule in achieving the Impact Master Action Plan 2023-2025. This now ensures that the business events sector in Sarawak continues to thrive while delivering measurable benefits to society.”

Amelia Roziman, CEO of BESarawak, highlighted a critical challenge in the global business events sector: the lack of comprehensive measurement and reporting of non-economic legacies. “The sector has traditionally concentrated on quantitative data, leaving significant social, environmental, and cultural impacts underreported,” Roziman explained. “AI.LEGACY is designed to address this gap, enabling the sector to capture and emphasize these vital contributions.”

AI.LEGACY brings automation and data intelligence to event legacy measurement, providing event planners with the tools to generate meaningful reports that validate their efforts. These reports can help planners secure additional support such as funding and endorsements while improving their long-term strategic planning. “With real-time insights and simplified processes, AI.LEGACY is poised to be the future of event legacy management,” Roziman added.

Prof. Dr. Lo May Chiun, Project Leader of AI.LEGACY and Senior Director of the Research, Innovation, and Enterprise Centre at UNIMAS, emphasized the system’s potential beyond the business events sector. “We are confident that AI.LEGACY will not only benefit the events industry but also support other sectors in unlocking their full potential. In today’s world, understanding both economic and non-economic benefits is crucial, and AI.LEGACY offers the tools to do just that,” she said.

In addition to its legacy management capabilities, AI.LEGACY also serves as a one-stop platform where users can conveniently book legacy clinic sessions and submit applications for various awards, including the Borneo Inspires Legacy Awards 2025. The system is set to be available for use starting early Q3/2025.

With the launch of AI.LEGACY, Sarawak is set to become a global leader in intelligent impact management for business events, offering a new way for event planners to maximize their contribution to society and align with sustainable development goals.
