This next-level recycling method sees the plastic from the rear covers of end-of-life TVs transformed into SORPLAS™ Sony’s proprietary flame-retardant recycled plastic which now plays a key role in the production of their new 65-inch BRAVIA 8 (2024 model).

Material-to-Material recycling is a game-changer. Unlike conventional methods, where recycled materials are downgraded or repurposed for lower-grade uses, this approach restores plastic back to high-quality raw material status good enough to be reused in new TVs without compromising durability or design.
The innovation behind this achievement is a combination of smart collaboration and high-tech breakthroughs. Sony’s BRAVIA design team partnered with Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, the creators of SORPLAS™, to tackle the challenge of sorting and reusing different types of plastics found in discarded TVs. With new sorting technology and advanced material-blending processes, they’ve unlocked a way to extract and reuse specific plastics from any brand of TV raising the bar for what’s possible in sustainable electronics.
This cutting-edge recycling solution debuts with the BRAVIA 8’s 65-inch model, set to begin global shipments within 2025. It’s a major milestone, not only for the brand but for the future of electronic manufacturing.
And it doesn’t stop here. Sony has its sights set on achieving full closed-loop recycling a fully circular system where old products continuously feed into the creation of new ones. That means your old TV could one day become part of your future one.
